Come to Butler snuggled between the Iron and Sink Valley mountains of Northeastern Tennessee between Boone, NC and Bristol, TN/VA. What is "The Snake"? 421TheSnake is a drive of 33 miles, 489 curves, 3 mountains and 1 valley from Mountain City, TN to Bristol, TN or from Bristol to Mountain City. Sports car or motorcycle - both love the challenge of "The Snake". Midpoint of the drive is Shady Valley with stores and food, as well as souvenirs at the Country Store. There is also another smaller store on the opposite corner. A side trip on 133 takes you to Backbone Rock – the world’s shortest railroad tunnel over Beaverdam Creek, a great fly fishing stream. Often people rock climb on the tunnel and there are good walking trails and picnic areas along the creek. Or, go the opposite direction on route 91 to the Appalachian Trail and then down to Elizabethton and Worley’s Cave for spelunking. Before or after tackling "The Snake", plan to stay in one of our mountain log cabins, or the house on Watauga Lake. Our lodging choices are perfect for friends, couples, or families, traveling to the mountains on vacation or weekend getaways. Spend a few days exploring the many other bike tours we have mapped out for you. Creekside Chalet, The Lodge, Iron Mountain Inn, or The Watauga Lake House are our vacation rental choices for your stay. Just give us your grocery and beverage list at least 24 hours prior to arrival, if possible. We will shop for you and have the items on the shelves and in the frig when you arrive. If you arrive last minute, we can provide some items and shop the next day for you. We know you can't carry everything in your packs, which is why we offer this shopping service. |
